therapy from the comfort of your home

What is therapy like?

Something that's very important to know is that therapy will usually feel worse before it feels better. This is completely normal and part of the process. The reason for that is because you're coming in with deep, painful experiences that can be heavy to process — not just emotionally, but also physically.

The good news is that it does get better.

If it’s your first time in therapy, you may have never shared some of your experiences with anyone else. So sometimes, you will feel tired after a session because it takes a lot to unpack all of the things that you've been holding on to or carrying for so long. It might bring up difficult memories or sad feelings that you may have been suppressing for so long or you just don't feel comfortable feeling at that time.

It's always important to let me know how you're feeling during therapy, after therapy, and even right before coming into therapy so that I can help you process what's coming up for you.

The duration of our time together depends on what you’re coming in for. You might just need support with a current event in your life, like a new job that’s causing stress or a breakup. You might want to process childhood trauma, or gain a deeper understanding about yourself. There is no right or wrong amount of time to be in therapy. It’s all about taking the time you need.

Something else that’s important to know is that my role as a therapist is not to tell you what to do. That’s a common misconception about therapists.

People usually come to therapy already knowing what they want and need. It's just hard to identify them. My purpose is to help you do that by guiding you in gaining insight into your emotions, thoughts and behaviors. I want to empower you to make your own decisions and to understand what it is that you want and need. I will help you with challenging negative beliefs you might have about yourself, setting boundaries with the people around you and empowering you to use your voice — even if it shakes — so you can fully discover what you need and want in your life.

Individual therapy FOR ADULTS

Individual therapy allows you to dive deep into difficulties you might be experiencing in different areas of your life in a one-on-one setting that is tailored to your individual needs. This type of therapy will help you improve coping skills to better manage a particular season in your life, process any memories, thoughts, or events that are negatively affecting the quality of your life and well-being.

I have a special interest in working with clients struggling with:

  • Depression

  • Adult children of domestic violence

  • Intergenerational trauma

  • First-generation college students/professionals

I have expertise and a deep interest in working with adults experiencing depression and adults that grew up in a domestic violence environment. My own lived experiences of growing up in a domestic violence home gives me the ability to provide a supportive, compassionate, and safe space for those with similar experiences. Let’s help you find the peace, safety and joy that domestic violence robbed you of.

emdr

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a type of therapy that’s meant to help clients process trauma. It’s different from talk therapy because it also uses external stimulation, such as sounds, visual movements and cues that engage all five senses. Traumatic experiences are usually stored in our brains and bodies because they have not been adequately processed. This can cause severe emotional distress, affect our physical health, and influence how we view the world and ourselves. EMDR can help rewire how these memories are stored in the brain so that there is a decrease and elimination of symptoms associated with trauma. A consultation will be required to determine if a client is a good candidate for EMDR.

Almost anyone can benefit from therapy, and you don’t need to be in a crisis to seek mental health support.
